589 CY Darlene Compatible Map
Posted on Thu, February 26, 2004 by Farcluun
abysslin writes "This is a hex map that is fully compatible with the famous "Darlene Map" of the 83' folio, coordinates and all, but is updated to 589 CY!

Now, 'hawkers old and new will be on the same page when quoting locations. Enjoy!

Used with Permission. Do not repost without obtaining prior permission from the author. *(see below)

I put alot of hours into this map to give people not fortunate enough to own the 83' Greyhawk Folio and From the Ashes something to bridge the gap of Darlene coordinate quotes and to see that there is much more out there than the map in the Living Greyhawk Gazateer, which could have used abit better treatment. Old and new 'hawkers alike should find this as a useful tool to enhance their gaming sessions.

Here's a preview of this awesome piece of cartographic glory!

Update: There are 2 errors present on this map.
1. "Chathold" is spelled "Chathola."
2. There are 2 cities marked as "Jalpa."

* I grant anyone and everyone permission to use this (my) map in any way shape, or form so long as the following 2 criteria are met.

1. My name remains intact in the lower right hand corner of the map. If this requirement can not be met (i.e.=using partial sections of the map), then please use text on the same page as the map and as close to the map as possible, showing credit to me as Terrance "Abysslin" Hunt.

2. Also on the same page as the map and as close to it as possible, there is a link to Canonfire as well as text stating that the map was and can be originally found here.

I really like the map. While it doesn't have the beautiful and geographic 3-D like fell of an Anondson map. It is really well done and covers a large area, it also succeeds in eliminating the need to use a ruler to mark distance. SO for the few set backs is has as an actual piece of art it more than makes up for it in general use. I give it a 5 out of 5!

Excellent job, updates the setting beautifully and makes a good transition from all of us who only remember the Darlene map. To me, this is Greyhawk, well done!

I like the map because it is easy to read, figure distance and it looks so much like the Darlene map. It is a good map for general use. Also, it does not completely empty my printer's color cartridge.

Great job. Another goodpiece of CF work.

Excellent map, it was about time someone updated the original map. I too have a similiar map that I use for my campaign, I might now consider posting it too.

Obviously, most of the terrain symbols follow the familiar symbols of extant maps. However, what are the "clear green" hexes that surround many of the cities? Cultivated land, I suppose, versus grasslands?

Frankly, I prefer your non-3-D approach to the terrain, as opposed to the original and FtA maps.

Nice job, and thanks!

btw, the red cities are old capitals or cities with an uncertain future due to current conflicts involving them.

It is a very good map, indeed.

What program did you use to create it ~ Campaign Cartographer or something similar?

I have always love to create maps in the old "hex-style" like back in the old Gazetter days. I'm really interested in making my own maps like your (in hex grid), but I've never known where to start. Could you give a fellow 'Hawker some help?

This  map is very good because it's very intellectual and amazing. Try word search puzzles for kids on PC & Mac for free. It's fun. Keeps my brain working rather than just mindless game.
