Actually, we played the compilation - Scourge of the Slavelords, where the PC's are captured early on, escape, and then progress through the rest of the adventures.
So in my game, they escape, and flee into town. Eldred I believe was the name of the town. They have nothing but the clothes on their backs, low HP, and know the slavers will come looking for them. So they find a lazy little tavern, but the barkeep gets a little too nosy and the PC's panic and kill him. Of course now they have to kill the few patrons that were in there. They clean up the blood and hide the bodies in a backroom. Then they lock the door and try to figure out their next move. More patrons come knocking, wondering why the tavern is closed, so the PC's are forced to let them in to avoid suspicion. They try to pull off being substitute barkeeps, but the regular patrons aren't buying it, and there are interesting stains on the floor, so one by one the body count is increasing, and the PC's (and players) are getting more and more panicked. Finally they set fire to the place to cover their tracks and run for it, burning down a good portion of the town accidentally.
After a couple more sessions of play, which consisted of them mostly complaining about how they lost all their stuff, the group disintegrated. Rather than united for a common goal of defeating the slavers and getting their stuff back, they turned into bitter crybabies who turned on each other, and me (since I was the DM, it was 'all my fault'). They never even came close to completing the series, but it is fun to remind them of what jerks they were back in that campaign. =) |

This is like the BATMAN movie where the 4 bigies try to take over the world. You can't concentrate on one, but must weave all their little sub-plots togather to make sense of the mosaic. Plus with a little help from some high-placed friends {hint, hint} there could be clones of each running around programmed not to fail this time MWAHAHAHA!!! |

They could have come up with some thing other than having Theg Narlot be the notorious leader of the Pomarj. It seems a lack imagination. |

Perhaps her intersection with various versions of Eclavdra seems less exciting and more academic? I have read few detailed descriptions of the drow beneath the Lortmils and Suss Forest, yet on Greytalk, the idea has been mentioned more than once.
Personally, I find Markessa engaging. We've seen two canon versions of her, and I still don't recognize what inspired them. The character seems quite odd for a fantasy setting though she acts similarly to certain folks beneath White Plume Mountain...
So Markessa would be a good choice since she could use an interesting explanation. Also, fey (evil) faeries (grey olves) distinguish Greyhawk well.
More interesting to me than Markessa, however, is the ogre-mage known in the Common-vocca as Blackthorne. His presence (and preferred form) intrigued me, so IMC, I use an entire clan of ogre-magi (wearing many faces), which dwells in and roams beyond the Drachensgrab Hills. |
