spell well (words, that is). His was the misfortune of being born into a language that allowed pretty much any vowel combination to have any sound (like English, and unlike Spanish, for example). While this would normally have been no hindrence, in his chosen profession as spell-caster, it proved incredibly frustrating. He was constantly botching spells because he could not pronounce the words correctly. His incredible will and natural aptitude for spellcraft overcame this early hindrence, but along the way his "***** the pronounciation, just cast the damn spell" attitude led to the invention of wild magic. Later his increasing eccentricity and lack of tolerance for spelling conventions could be seen in the variations he wrote of his own name - Zagig, Zagyg, Xegig, Xagig, Xagy, and Zagy, to name a few.
Much later, as a mature man seeking a purpose in life, he began to worship the god Boccob. This proved his ultimate undoing. What is the best way to worship a true nuetral god called "The Uncaring"? Despite his best attempts to please Boccob, the god renained uncaring. He demanded worship, but never told Zagig what would please him. (Think about your last girlfriend, here). In his schizophrenic quest to constantly remake himself, desperately trying to please his Uncaring patron, Zagig became truly Mad.
